Without balance, there is stress. Life can be divided into three areas that need your attention and tender care: family, faith and work.
Family
Family includes those most dear to you. It can be a spouse (with or without a houseful of children), your church, your community or anything in between. It may be that puppy that awaits your return every day.
Faith
Faith is your belief system; it is the glue that binds you to your passion. Everyone believes in something, because without faith, we would travel aimlessly through life. Even the famous atheist Madelyn Murray O’Hare was impassioned about her non-belief and thus had faith in her convictions.
My belief system lies in God and a higher calling. I am of the mind that giving begets, and it has always lifted me to exactly where I needed to be. I believe that faith, propelled by a powerful attitude and unfailing mindset, can accomplish anything.
What drives you? What gets you up and out in the morning? It might be something spiritual. It may be something worldly or love for your family and children. It might be a combination of all of these. Be in touch with yourself enough to know who you are and what you stand for.
Be careful, however, never to judge others in light of your own inner passion. Let others choose their own paths, and sell your own belief system by example. This is a personal matter that’s better left out of the workplace.
Work
Keeping in mind that you are striving for leadership qualities, your choice of work must be of the highest order. Seek an opportunity that lifts you and allows you to do good deeds. Any job or position that feels wrong will not fulfill you but impede your progress toward being a leader.
